Garden Design

Making your Garden your Own

A full garden design can be the best approach when improving an outdoor space. It is particularly relevant where the ‘bones’ of the existing garden are not sufficiently interesting or characterful to be worth retaining as a base for the rest of the garden.

It may also be that the tastes of a new garden owner are very different from those of a previous owner and hence a re-imagining of the space becomes necessary.

Our Process

1. The Site Visit

An initial site visit is arranged where I will come and meet you on-site. We will appraise the site together
and discuss, among other things, the following:

Some measurements and photographs will be taken at this time. (If the site is especially complex in terms of changes of level of features, then it may be necessary for us to employ a professional surveyor to map the site before any design work commences.)

2. The Design Brief

At this stage we will produce a written design brief which outlines all that we have discussed on-site.

It provides a creative and practical framework for the design and, once agreed or amended, ensures that we are all in agreement as to what the design should be
striving towards.

3. The Outline Design

We will produce a design based on the brief. The design will take the form of an overhead layout plan and may include one or more sections or elevations.

It may not include specific plants or materials at this stage unless they are key to the design.

The plan will be accompanied by a supporting document to illustrate how it meets the brief.

4. Additional Plans / Documents

Planting plans and more detailed construction drawings may be required as necessary once the outline design is approved.

If at any stage you decide not to continue with the design process then you will only be charged for the work done to date; there is no obligation to complete the whole process.
